Sermon on the Mount Introduction

The Gospel of Matthew presents Jesus’ most famous teaching, The Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5–7) where Jesus began to teach what it means to live in the Kingdom of Heaven. Following His proclamation in Matthew 4:17—“Repent of your sins and turn to God, for the Kingdom of Heaven is near”—Jesus calls His disciples and begins to teach them on a mountainside (Matthew 5:1–2), laying out a radical vision of humility, righteousness, mercy, and grace. These teachings are not abstract ideals but a divine invitation to live as citizens of God's Kingdom, set apart from the values of the world.
