In Matthew 11:1–19, John the Baptist wrestles with unmet expectations when Jesus does not act according to the timing or manner he anticipated. Like John, we can become disappointed when God does not follow the script we imagined. Yet Jesus invites us to bring Him our questions, surrender our expectations, and trust His heart—even when we cannot understand His ways. Jesus both subverts and fulfills our expectations, and the cross assures us that He can always be trusted.
