Let Your Yes Be Yes

This sermon explores Jesus’ teaching in Matthew 5:33–37, where He confronts the misuse of oaths and calls His followers to a life marked by honesty, purity of heart, and consistent integrity. In a world where promises are easily broken and words are often used carelessly, Jesus reveals that the true measure of a disciple is not found in dramatic vows or spiritual-sounding phrases, but in the reliability of everyday speech.
The message explains how, in Jesus’ time, religious leaders created loopholes that allowed people to appear truthful without actually living truthfully. Jesus cuts through this false righteousness by reminding His listeners that every word we speak is ultimately spoken before God. He teaches that Kingdom integrity is simple: let your “yes” be yes and your “no” be no.
This sermon highlights how integrity flows from the heart and how the Holy Spirit called the Spirit of Truth empowers believers to speak with clarity, honesty, and Christlike character. Christians should examine the motives behind their words, to embrace truthfulness in all situations, and to allow the Holy Spirit to align their speech with God’s nature.
Ultimately, this message calls the church to reflect God’s character through dependable, Spirit-led words that strengthen our witness and deepen our walk with Christ.
