You have heard it said, but I say to you: Adultery/Lust

In Matthew 5:27–30, Jesus exposes the deeper issue beneath adultery—not merely the outward act, but the lustful desire of the heart. Sin does not begin with behavior; it begins internally, where unchecked desires take root. As James later explains, temptation arises from within, as sinful desires entice and give birth to sin, which, if left unconfessed, leads to death (James 1:13–15). Jesus’ severe language underscores the urgency of confronting sin at its source. Faithful obedience requires decisive action—restraining sinful appetites and bringing hidden desires into the light before they destroy us.
